I still don’t know if committing to all eight Hell Week workouts was a good idea.
I do know that I’m enjoying taking the weekend off after working my bones off.
Attending all eight Hell Week workouts was a great challenge for the back end of my 2025 and it did help me in this newsletter content game.
So without further delay, here’s how I rank all eight Hell Week workouts for 2025:
Draw of The Deep (Saturday, October 25): How did it work out that this was the only Hell Week workout with burpees? Tread block set up well to accumulate distance with pushes and base. Putting the onus on the runners to “break the spell” of those on the floor was the best theming of the week.
Eternal Ritual (Wednesday, October 29): Best floor block of the entire week with alternate swinging lunges that seemingly never ended. The entire workout gave me the energy and motivation to get through the rest of the week.
Veil of the Unknown (Friday, October 31): The grand finale. All three stations super-challenging with 14.5 minutes of mayhem for each. Three thousand meters on the rower never felt so good.
The Witches’ Hold (Thursday, October 30): A tread block involving a mini-Everest going straight into an unofficial quarter-mile benchmark. The most diabolical sequence of the whole week.
Bewitched Balance (Sunday, October 26): I thought the four separate endurance blocks on the tread meant we’d be getting a one-mile benchmark challenge in November, but that isn’t the case. Oh well, still a fun way to break up what was essential one long run for distance.
Havoc’s Hex (Friday, October 24): Super tornado in the second half of class was a lot of fun, but this seems like forever ago. Recency bias probably helped a few workouts get higher on the list.
Chains of the Coven (Tuesday, October 28): Solid workout with resistance bands, but nothing too exciting on the treads (inclines) or rowers (slow). It set up well for a green day in the middle of Hell Week, but that was about it.
Omen of the Hourglass (Monday, October 27): This was the only workout that really didn’t feel like a Hell Week workout for me. Don’t give me a choice between power or endurance. Pick something to challenge me and go with it! Alas, they can’t all be winners.
