What’s up, fellow Obsessives?

February may be the shortest month, but the 2026 version sure feels looong.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Using OTF to prep for a half marathon

February may seem to be dragging on, but spring time will be here soon.

With that will come spring time half marathons.

I’m currently signed up for one in late April, an impulse commitment I made due to some Black Friday pricing, my wife already having signed up for the race and a refusal to think it’d be that cold at the start of the training cycle.

Yet here we are and my outdoor odometer still sits at a fat 0.0 because I haven’t gotten myself into an outdoor mindset yet, even with some unseasonal temps last week.

Thank god for Orangetheory.

A Fox affiliate in Columbus just ran a news feature on how OTF can be integral to training for the Capital City Half Marathon and I have to say I wholeheartedly agree.

Now let’s just get something out of the way: Nothing can replace the weekly long run that is a staple of most half marathon training plans.

If you want to get any sort of great result from your run, it’s going to be the result of building long and steady endurance over increasing mileage.

And, yes, most of those miles should probably come outside.

But Orangetheory is an excellent place to work on everything in between.

  • Power Days are great for interval training

  • Strength Days are excellent for hill prep

  • Endurance Days (or Tread 50s) are made for working out your race pace

Throw in the total body results that the floor and rowing segments produce and OTF can put you on an efficient path to the finish line should you choose that route.

And for now, that’s what I’m doing. I’ll get outside soon for those long runs, but a Tread50 today at noon is calling my name.
