Good OTF Coaches Are Priceless
I was near the halfway point of my race last weekend when it happened.
One of the awesome coaches from my Orangetheory studio popped out of the crowd yelling my name at the top of her lungs to cheer me on.
She didn’t know I was running the race. I didn’t know she’d be there. It was just a happy coincidence that took place a few hundred yards from the studio itself.
Seeing her gave me a lot of fuel for the final half of the run. I don’t know exactly how big the boost it gave me, but I’m happy to report I set a PR!
Seeing her also reminded me the true secret of OTF’s success is in its coaches.
I’m lucky enough to belong to a location that has almost no turnover in its coaching ranks. Two of my coaches were on staff the day I joined in 2018. The one I saw during the race has been her for five years and just celebrated coaching her 3,000th class.
Another coach left us to become head coach at another location and I’d run through a wall for him. And he was replaced by a coach who’s making her own connections with us. Our great culture is clearly a self-perpetuating one.
I know that not all OTF locations are created equal. All it takes is a visit to another studio or reading drama on Reddit to know that having coaching stability is a privilege.
But when you do have it? Man, does it make a difference. While there are many things that keep me coming back to OTF, our roster of coaches is at the top of my list.
I try not to take that for granted.
I’d love to hear about the coaches who have made a difference in your journey. The ones who push you every day, the ones who get you through something hard, the ones randomly pop out of a crowd at a half marathon to cheer you on …

• Congrats to Whitley T., who is celebrating her 100th class today while on vacation in Hawaii. (Yes, I am extremely jealous.)

I think that is a pretty cool place to celebrate that accomplishment!
I just did my first ever Inferno workout (4/17), as well as Dri-Tri (sprint on 4/19). My Inferno stat was 3013 meters and my Dri-Tri sprint time was 31:54. Definitely have some work to do on both the rower and the tread portion but overall I am happy with my distance and time being that both classes were my first experience.
• Congrats to my friend Jeff A. for putting all of his foot injury rehab behind him and setting a PR in the Dri-Tri Sprint!
